Robert T. Dassow was born in Sheboygan Wisconsin on January 4, 1965. He was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1990. He is a graduate of Beloit College (B.A. Economics; Concentration Biochemistry, 1987). While there he was a Volrath Scholar and played three sports: basketball (captain), baseball, and tennis (captain). He lives in Indianapolis, Indiana with his wife Kathy, also a lawyer, and their three children Reid (21), Jack (19), and Ellie (18).
Robert graduated from Valparaiso University School of Law (J.D. 1990) where he was an Articles Editor for the Law Review. He was also an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Valparaiso University. He was also a Summer Intern for Chief Judge Loren A. Smith, U.S. Court of Federal Claims (formerly U.S. Claims Court). Rob not only is admitted to practice before all of the Federal and State Courts in Indiana, but has also actively practiced in numerous State and Federal Courts across the country.
He is one of the four partners of Hovde Dassow + Deets, and previously was a partner of the law firm Siegel Carter & Dassow. Prior to that Robert was an associate at the law firm of Locke Reynolds. He is currently a Fellow of the American Bar Association, the Indiana Bar Foundation, the Federal Bar Association, and the American Association for Justice; and is a Board Member of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association. Rob was recognized as an Indiana Super Lawyer in Mass Torts in 2010, and was named as national liaison counsel for the Biomet Hip MDL 2391.
Rob has represented numerous families who have suffered catastrophic personal injury, injury or death from pharmaceuticals and medical devices, wrongful death, and medical malpractice. He has obtained more than $100,000,000 in settlements in mass tort cases alone, as well as many medical malpractice maximum recoveries under Indiana malpractice law.
Rob has served in a variety of leadership capacities in state and Multi-District Litigation Plaintiffs Steering Comittees. Rob was designated national liaison counsel for the Biomet Metal-on-Metal hip implant litigation, where more than 2,000 cases were settled, and was named as co-lead counsel in the In re Raptivalitigation in Alameda County, California – a mass tort case involving a biologic agent used to treat psoriasis. Since 2015, he has been serving as Plaintiffs’ Liaison Counsel in the Indiana State Court for the Testosterone Replacement Therapy Liability Litigation in Illinois. Rob was also designated as co-trial counsel for Third Party Payer Claims in the Vioxx litigation.
