Charlie Waters has been that “someone else” to countless personal injury clients for over 3 decades, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. Advocating for the injured is not just what he does, it is who he is. His approach is simple. He wakes up every day asking one basic question.
“How can I be a better lawyer today for those who have entrusted me with so much?”
That’s how Charlie Waters approaches his responsibility to those he serves, and he brings it with a passion. Charlie is passionate about ensuring his clients receive the justice they are rightfully owed. He demands his clients be respected, not just fully compensated. And when it comes to being compensated for their losses, he leaves no dollar behind to help make his clients as whole as possible. That singular drive and purpose has brought Charlie great success, for which he feels grateful, humbled, and blessed.
Since obtaining a BBA degree in Accounting from Texas Tech University (’78) and a law degree from Baylor University School of Law (’81), Charlie has developed a deep respect for the American jury trial system and a hunger for the courtroom. His trial experience covers a wide variety of cases, communities, and courtrooms. Having successfully tried personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits all over Texas, Charlie has learned what it takes to effectively develop, and persuasively present, a case to a jury. He has also learned that there is no substitute for courtroom experience, as there are certain things that simply cannot be learned from a law book. His expertise with juries and his success in trying lawsuits gives his clients an advantage in winning both trials and settlements.
In his 38 years of practice, Charlie has written numerous articles, guest lectured on many personal injury law topics, and been recognized by his peers with an “AV Preeminent” rating from Martindale-Hubbell. This rating is based on peer reviews of local attorneys and signifies the highest level of professional excellence and standards of conduct. Notwithstanding this recognition and many others, Charlie feels his greatest honor comes when someone who has been seriously injured, or lost a loved one, due to the negligent acts of another, turns to him for help and retains him as their lawyer. For Charlie, that special moment creates a unique and personal bond of trust, a bond that he shares with all his clients.
The bond between Charlie and his clients motivates him to provide the most effective legal representation he possibly can. He knows to be a great advocate for the injured means possessing in-depth knowledge and understanding of human anatomy and the many mechanisms of physical injury. That takes years of study. Seeking to master the medical science has made him the lawyer, advocate, and teacher he is today. Teaching jurors, fellow lawyers, and certainly his clients, about injuries of all kinds has been the cornerstone Charlie’s success and recognition and remains deeply rewarding to him.
Toward that end, Charlie Waters established the Texas Brain Injury Law Center, an online library of information that offers answers, guidance, and support to those struggling with brain injuries, widely considered the most complex and most frustrating of all personal injuries. The Center’s database is a wealth of information on brain injury and brain injury litigation, including featured articles by Charlie Waters and invited guest contributors. The Center also has sections Frequently Asked Questions and Answers, contact information for TBI support organizations, a Glossary of TBI Terminology, a video library, and Brain Injury Blog and Latest News he hopes all will find helpful. This information has been gathered from some of the best medical minds in the neuroscience community, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, psychiatrists, neuroradiologists, counselors, rehabilitation therapists, and clinicians of all specialties. It was Charlie’s experience with the tragic consequences of TBI for both victims and their families that inspired him to devote the time and effort to create the Texas Brain Injury Law Center. As a member of The National Brain Injury Trial Lawyers Association, and recognized as one of the Top 25 Brain Injury Lawyers in Texas, Charlie Waters’ landmark work in brain injury, and the founding of the Texas Brain Injury Law Center, are universally acknowledged as preeminent and of immense value to brain injury survivors everywhere.
