Bruce J. Babij was born and raised in rural, upstate New York where his family operated a converted farmhouse as a seasonal inn.
Bruce received his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, the renowned “Great Books” program, and his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Villanova University in 1983.
From the very outset of his professional career, Bruce’s practice has been exclusively focused on vindicating the legal rights of those victimized by the negligence of others.
Since joining the Firm of which he is now a principal and partner, Bruce has assumed the primary responsibility for managing and litigating the Firm’s most protracted and complex cases.
Bruce now primarily devotes his practice to the representation of infants and children who have suffered birth trauma and birth related injuries caused by obstetrical or neonatal malpractice. Bruce has successfully litigated such cases on behalf of these most innocent of victims across the United States, recovering hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation on their behalf.
Bruce is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia and has been specially admitted in jurisdictions across the country. Because of the unique focus of his national practice on behalf of injured children, Bruce is routinely consulted by lawyers from across the country and by the families of children suffering from cerebral palsy, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy and other devastating neurologic injuries seeking his guidance and assistance in evaluating and prosecuting claims arising from obstetrical or neonatal malpractice.
Bruce is a member of the American Association for Justice, the Maryland Association for Justice, the AAJ’s Birth Trauma Litigation Group and numerous specialty and regional bar associations.
Bruce has perennially maintained the prestigious “A/V” rating awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, publisher of the definitive directory of America’s Leading Lawyers, and has been consistently recognized for his achievements in such publications as “Best Lawyers” and “Super Lawyers”.
Along with his partners, Henry E. Dugan, Jr. and George S. Tolley, III, Bruce was recognized as Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Maryland Association for Justice for his dedicated representation of a brain damaged child injured at birth as a result of obstetrical malpractice. Through the efforts of Bruce and his colleagues, one of largest jury verdicts in a medical malpractice case in the history of the State of Maryland was obtained on behalf of this severely injured child.
When Bruce is able to take time off from his busy practice, he enjoys nothing more than to spend some precious time with his family-- hiking, biking and still trying to learn how to fly fish.
