Rick Baskin has offices in Oakland, Hayward, and Concord, specializing in litigation throughout the San Francisco Bay Area on behalf of plaintiffs in personal injury claims, auto, pedestrian and bicycle accidents, wrongful death, products and premises liability, industrial accidents and medical malpractice.
Rick graduated with honors from UC Santa Barbara and earned his law degree from the University Of San Francisco School Of Law. Before entering private practice, he tried numerous criminal cases as a Deputy District Attorney.
Mr. Baskin is on the faculty of the Trial Lawyers College, a non-profit organization founded by prominent trial attorney and author, Gerry Spence, dedicated to training lawyers to be winning advocates and to obtain justice for people. “My Story of Self Discovery at Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College”, by Richard Baskin was personally selected by Mr. Spence to be displayed on the Trial Lawyers College website.
Mr. Baskin has obtained many large verdicts and settlements for his severely injured clients, including a recent settlement of $4.85 million in a wrongful death case, a settlement of $1.7 million in a brain damage case against Caltrans, a settlement of $1.4 million in a premises liability case in San Joaquin County and a settlement of $1.1 million in a bicycle accident case.
He has obtained large verdicts including a $3.75 million dollar verdict in Ortiz v. The Southland Corp., et al. and a $332,500 verdict in Moffatt v. Zim’s Restaurant. He has written and lectured extensively on the subject of civil trial practice and is a contributing author of a two-volume reference manual entitled “Premises Security and Liability – A Comprehensive Guide From the Experts.” (1997) Workplace Violence Research Institute, Laguna Beach, California.
Mr. Baskin, a past President of the Alameda/Contra Costa Trial Lawyers Association, served for 10 years on the board of governors of the Consumer Attorneys of California, 3 years as a Director of the Alameda County Bar Association (ACBA) and 2 years as Chair of the ACBA Trial Practice Section. Currently he is on the faculty of the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College.
Mr. Baskin holds the highest rating from Martindale Hubbell and is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. Since 2006 he has been named a “Super Lawyer” by Law and Politics Magazine.
