Born in 1955, Steven attended the State University of New York at Buffalo where he earned his B.A. degree with honors in 1977. After graduation Mr. Schwartzapfel attended the Pace University School of Law. In 1980, he graduated with a J.D. degree and in the following year was admitted to the bar of the New York and U.S. District Court, in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Steven has a passion for justice and a desire to serve the New York community. He has been active in the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the New York State Bar Association and was recently elected Vice President of the 2006-2007 New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers. He has presented “How to Handle a Neck and Back Injury Case” to the NYSBA and has served as an Officer of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, serving as Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian and, since 1993, as a member of its Board of Directors.
Mr. Schwartzapfel served on the Judicial Screening Committees for both the Bronx County and New York County, in addition to serving on the Committee on Professional Discipline of the New York County Lawyers Association. Pursuing his long-standing interest in technology, Mr. Schwartzapfel is Chairperson for Practicing Law with Computers, and is a member of the American Association for Justice. As Co-Chairperson of the Alliance for Consumer Rights, Steven has shown his concern for his clients and the consumer rights movement. He has also worked for the general improvement of legal business relationships as Chairperson of both “Increasing Profits Through Better Client Relations and Management” and “How to Thrive and Survive Beyond ’95”. In 1996 he participated as Faculty and Lecturer for New York State Trial Lawyers on Insurance.
Mr. Scwartzapfel has been awarded the prestigious AV rating in Martindale-Hubbell. This rating, which identifies a lawyer with very high to preeminent legal ability, is a reflection of expertise, experience, integrity and overall professional excellence. The AV rating system was established by attorneys for attorneys, and recognizes those with the highest professional and ethical standards. Steven was elected NYSTLA chairperson for Precedents and Statutes in 2005 and is a founding member of the NYS Academy of Trial Lawyers.
